Omaha, Neb. (June 18, 2014) – Salvation Army personnel continue to serve those affected by tornadoes in Pilger, Neb. Emergency Services teams from Lincoln and Norfolk, Neb. remain on the scene. Lincoln Corps Officer, Major James Pennington, is the Incident Commander in Pilger.
Relief efforts will continue for as long as needed. Salvation Army officers and staff are focused on the immediate needs of disaster survivors and first responders, providing food and hydration for impacted individuals, first responders and volunteers. Since Monday evening, more than 3,300 meals, beverages and snacks have been provided by The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is accepting donations of Gatorade, Powerade or similar sports drinks through Friday, June 20 between 8:30 am – 4:00 pm. Donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services center, 10629 Burt Circle.
The Salvation Army asks people who want to help those affected by the storms to donate online or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY. Donors may contribute $10 via their phone by text messaging the word STORM to 80888 and confirming the donation with the word “Yes.” Monetary donations are needed to meet survivors’ most immediate needs:
A $10 donation feeds a disaster survivor for one day
A $30 donation provides one food box which contains staple foods for a family of four, or one household cleanup kit which contains a broom, mop, bucket and other cleaning supplies
A $100 donation can serve snacks and drinks to 125 survivors and emergency personnel at the scene of a disaster
A $250 donation can provide one hot meal for 100 people or keep a hydration station operational for 24 hours
A $500 donation keeps a Salvation Army canteen fully operational for one day
