The Salvation Army's First Ring of the Season to Kick off Red Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army’s First Ring of the Season will be on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Family Fare Supermarket, 14444 West Center Road.

The first ring will be rung by Divisional Commander Major Greg Thompson at 9 a.m. The Salvation Army band will provide musical entertainment.

City-wide bell ringing begins at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10 at more than 130 locations in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area. Bell ringing will continue through Dec. 23. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to fill these shifts.

Each of the 14 Family Fare Supermarkets and three Supermercado Nuestra Familias in the greater Omaha area will feature a red kettle throughout the holiday season.

“SpartanNash is proud to be a longtime participant in The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign,” said Meredith Gremel, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications for SpartanNash, which owns the Family Fare and Supermercado Nuestra Familia locations. “The bell ringers provide a reminder of the true power of sharing and caring during the holiday season. Together with our retail grocery stores in the greater Omaha area, SpartanNash is proud to partner with The Salvation Army throughout the year to secure the necessary funds and product donations to help those struggling in our communities, especially when the needs remain great.”

Volunteer bell ringers can sign up online at www.registertoring.com or by calling 402-898-6000. Those who register to ring and fulfill their shift are eligible to be entered in the Borsheims Big Ring promotion to win a diamond ring. The drawing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Borsheims.

Donations raised through the red kettles benefits The Salvation Army Tree of Lights Campaign, a fundraising initiative that supports social service programs in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area.
