THE SALVATION ARMY TREE OF LIGHTS CAMPAIGN UPDATE Urgent Need - Red kettle giving still slow

Donations to The Salvation Army's Tree of Lights campaign are still lagging behind last year's rate of contributions. Through December 17th, the campaign had raised a total of $1,641,545, which is 54.7% percent of the $3 million goal.  This is 11% behind the 2012 campaign.

Of the total, nearly $371,000 has been donated directly to the 100 plus Red Kettles sites around the Omaha metro. The remaining balance was given through the mail, online and through the generosity of local businesses.

Bell ringers are still needed through Dec. 24. Volunteers can sign up to ring at one of our many Red Kettle sites in Omaha.  Sign up online at or call 402.898.6000.

“The Red Kettle Campaign is our most crucial fundraising period,” said Major Ron Busroe, national community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army.  “The shorter holiday season has impacted the amount the organization has been able to raise this season.  As a result, many programs from shelters to after school programs and meal assistance are in jeopardy of losing funding.”
