Salvation Army Fan Drive Helps Those in Need Beat The Heat

Westlake Ace Hardware to team up with The Salvation Army
in Omaha to raise money for fans.

The temperature is on the rise and so is The Salvation Army’s need for fans. This summer, Westlake Ace Hardware has teamed up with the Omaha Salvation Army to help collect money for fans. All money raised will be used to purchase fans The Salvation Army will distribute this summer to low-income seniors, qualified families with children, and adults with disabilities.

Westlake Ace Hardware is kicking off their "Salvation Army Fan Drive" with a donation of 50 box fans and encourage local residents to do their part too:

  • From Saturday, July 19 – Aug 3, all Omaha-area Westlake Hardware stores and stores in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lincoln, Neb., will collect monetary donations to benefit the local Salvation Army.

  • For every dollar raised during the two-week period, Westlake Hardware will purchase fans at cost for The Salvation Army so they will be able to provide even more fans to Omaha residents when demand is the highest.
  • A Fan Drive kick-off celebration will be held at the Westlake location at 350 N. Saddle Creek Road on Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Complimentary hotdogs and refreshments will be served from 11 am - 1 pm. People will have an opportunity to make a monetary donation for the purchase of new fans. Ricky Woods with Star 104.5 will provide music and prizes from 10 am - 12 pm.

“Heat poses a very real danger to our elderly clients, families with young children and those with medical issues,” said Susan Eustice, Divisional Director for the Salvation Army Omaha. “All the money raised will stay local and these box fans are critical to keeping those without air conditioning or who are on a fixed income, comfortable and safe during the hot summer months.”

“It’s very easy to help,” said Timothy Beneasch, general manager of the Saddle Creek Westlake store. “Visit any local Westlake July 19 - Aug 3 and at the checkout counter, make a donation toward a fan in any chosen amount. For a $5 donation, one ‘fan blade’ can be given, $10 provides two ‘fan blades’, $15 for three blades or $20 for the entire fan.”

"Fans will be distributed by the Salvation Army to low-income seniors, qualified families with children, and adults with disabilities to help them beat the heat this summer. For more information about eligibility, contact the Salvation Army in your area."
