Public Invited to the Council Bluffs Salvation Army Tree of Lights Ceremony

The Salvation Army in Council Bluffs welcomes the public to its Tree of Lights Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Corps Community Center, located at 715 N 16th Street.

The ceremony, starting at 6:30 p.m., will feature the lighting of the Tree of Lights, a free concert, and special guest Council Bluffs Mayor Matt Walsh.

The lighting of the Tree of Lights will be shown on a screen at the Corps Community Center. The public is also welcome to go to the tree, which is located at American National Bank on 16th and Broadway. The tree will be lit at approximately 6:40 p.m. We are grateful to American National Bank for creating a space for this new tree.

The Browns, a gospel music group from LeMars, Iowa, will be performing during the ceremony. The group has been delivering the message of the gospel through word and song full-time for 15 years.

There will be a $5 community dinner preceding the ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

The Tree of Lights Ceremony marks the beginning of The Salvation Army Tree of Lights Campaign. This year’s fundraising goal for the Omaha-Council Bluffs Salvation Army will be announced during the ceremony.

The Salvation Army’s red kettles will be located around the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area from Nov. 10 to Dec. 23. Volunteer bell ringers can sign up online at www.registertoring.com or by calling 402-898-6000.
