The Salvation Army and Food Bank for the Heartland Partner to Help with Hurricane Clean-up

The Salvation Army is partnering with Food Bank for the Heartland, WOWT and Werner Enterprises to run a donation drive for clean-up supplies on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The drive, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon, will be at Food Bank for the Heartland, located off Interstate 80 at 10525 J St., Omaha, NE 68127. Participants can simply drive through the parking lot and drop off their donations to waiting volunteers. Husker fans who wish to participate can stop by the Food Bank with their donations on their way down to Lincoln for Saturday’s football game.

“In addition to offering prayers for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, we are taking action and providing an outlet for many people in our communities who wish to contribute their support,” said Susan Ogborn, president and CEO of Food Bank for the Heartland. “We are proud to partner with The Salvation Army, Werner Enterprises, and WOWT for this effort and are grateful for all our volunteers and supporters who are helping families in need in Texas and Florida.”

The clean-up supplies will be delivered to disaster sites by Werner Enterprises and then distributed by The Salvation Army to those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with our local partners, who are deeply committed to offering real help and hope to those affected by Hurricanes Irma and Harvey,” said Major Greg Thompson, divisional commander of The Salvation Army Western Division. “I am heartened by the thousands of people across the Midwest who have rallied to support their fellow neighbors in Florida and Texas. Because of their generosity, the relief efforts of The Salvation Army will have an even greater impact on the people still reeling from these disasters.”

The donation drive is accepting items used for flood clean-up, which includes:
  • Plastic buckets
  • All-purpose handles
